Historical & Scriptural Significance
Surya (the Sun) is the only directly visible deity in the Vedic tradition and is the central focus of the Rig Veda’s Gayatri Mantra (Savitri Gayatri). The Aditya Hridayam in the Valmiki Ramayana was given by the sage Agastya to Rama before his battle with Ravana. Surya worship includes offering water (Arghya) at sunrise — one of the most ancient daily rituals in Hinduism.
