Historical & Scriptural Significance
This mantra was the central mantra of Saint Samarth Ramdas (1608–1681), the spiritual guru of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj of the Maratha Empire. Ramdas spread this mantra across Maharashtra, establishing 1,100 Hanuman temples. The mantra contains 13 syllables and is considered a complete, self-contained prayer to Rama. It is the foundation of the Rama Kirtan tradition in Maharashtra and Uttarakhand.
